TSEGA AMANUEL TESHOME · TAMPA, FL

I teach computers to do things I couldn't do in 2020.

Incoming software engineer at DoorDash. Currently finishing my CS degree at USF.

01 / About

I was born and raised in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. In 2020, with the world on pause, a borrowed laptop and a YouTube tutorial cracked something open — curiosity turned into obsession almost overnight. The first thing I shipped was a Premier League outcome predictor: an 8-layer LSTM I trained on a decade of match data and sold on Fiverr for about $200. Football and code became the same thing.

Since then, I've followed that thread across Amazon, DoorDash, and a handful of side projects. To me, CS is less about any single language or framework and more about staying curious across domains — ML one week, distributed systems the next, frontend the week after. Along the way, I've been lucky to work with some great teams.

DoorDash

Software Engineer Intern

Designed a dual-workflow system across 3 microservices with real-time signal processing that auto-triggers AI calls to Dashers when elite customers (top 0.5%) experience multiple order unassignments. Architected DoorDash's first AI-powered customer service automation using PolyAI, replacing human agents for 19K weekly calls — cut call costs by 42% and saved $306K annually. Shipped end-to-end PolyAI integration with automated case management and payment processing, handling 990K+ annual interactions without human intervention.

AI Integration
2024

Amazon

Software Engineer Intern

Designed and built a high-impact Angular page that lets Amazon engineers compare and visualize different shipment versions, accelerating debugging across multiple teams. Added validation rules to the shipment data service that flag defective single-carton-multi-unit pallets and notify vendors automatically. Integrated CSRF protection into the vendor website's POST requests, hardening backend security.

Leadership
2023

Amazon

Software Engineer Intern

Built 200 automated Cypress test cases for core website components, boosting team productivity by 35%. Migrated a core API to a new AWS backend — now serving 10,000+ customers. Stood up a scalable frontend API procurement layer bridging the old and new backends.

Freelance Developer

Built the Premier League Soccer Outcome Predictor: 8-layer LSTM in TensorFlow trained on historical match data, 82% accuracy. Monetized on Fiverr, generated $200 in revenue.

Premier League Outcome Predictor

An 8-layer LSTM trained on historical English Premier League data.

The origin-story project — the moment football and code became the same thing. Trained in TensorFlow on a decade of match data, reached 82% accuracy on held-out fixtures, and quietly monetized on Fiverr while I was still figuring out what a gradient descent actually was.

04 / Stack

Most days: TypeScript, React, Next.js, and Node/NestJS. Python when there's data to wrangle, Go when I want something sharper. Comfortable across Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS (ECS, RDS, CDK). Angular when the job calls for it, Swift and Kotlin when a phone is the target. Shipping through Vercel, styling with Tailwind. Older languages I still like: C, Java, C#.
